| Notes: | The Lady of Shallot is the title of an 1843 poem by Alfred Tennyson. In this poem, set in the Arthurian mythos, the Lady of Shallot is cursed with death if she looks at the outside world. After seeing Sir Lancelot in a magic mirror, the Lady looks out of her window and begins to die. The poem inspired many Pre-Raphaelites paintings, including several depictions of the title character by John William Waterhouse. |
