Olivier Messiaen's distinctive musical style sets his work apart from that of other composers, but his compositions were often performed in concert with that of other composers. Messiaen was affiliated early in his career with the group La Jeune France and the ensemble La Spirale, taking part in joint performances and collaborative ventures. Messiaen's first wife, Claire Delbos, was also a member of La Spirale; a collaborations with other members of La Jeune France on the play Portique pour une fille de France (1941) produced Choeurs pour une Jeanne d'Arc.
